Greek ROA president offers insight into leadership and military psycholog
By Lt. Col. Ann Peru Knabe and Capt Michal Filippidis
Brig. General Grigorios Kostaras, a Greek Army Reserve officer, wears two military hats: he serves as the Greece Reserve Officer Association president and is an academic expert in military leadership.
The panzer (tank) officer served in the active Army from 1962 – 1964 and then started his academic journey on the civilian side. He finished his Ph.D. in Hamburg, Germany, and completed post-doctorate studies in Denmark. Today General Kostaras is a professor of philosophy and psychology at the University of Athens in Greece, where he has been teaching for 27 years.
Professor Kostaras’ scholarly interest focuses on the psychology of leadership. The reserve officer also teaches at the Greek Police and Military Academies. In 1985, he co-authored a book with a German scholar called Military Psychology of the Troops. The book is now used in teaching curriculum at the police and military academies.
General Kostaras has attended the CIOR Seminar every midwinter. He has also served as a guest lecturer at Wesseling where he spoke on the role of reservists in contemporary society.
